Character Information
Character Name: Zant
Fandom: Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Character History: Zant is a member of the Twili race, a race of shadow beings who originate in the Twilight Realm. They are the descendants of a group known as the Dark Interlopers. The Dark Interlopers attempted to use a dangerous magical artifact known as the Fused Shadows in a bid to conquer the Sacred Realm, but they were stopped by the Light Spirits of Hyrule and the Golden Goddesses, who banished them to the Twilight Realm as punishment.

Bathed in the pure light of the Twilight Realm, the Interlopers eventually settled down into life in the Twilight Realm and became what is now the Twili race, a race of pure and gentle beings. Zant, however, was the sole exception. Zant was considered highly unusual among the Twili. While most were content with life in the Twilight Realm, Zant felt as though his people were being imprisoned and longed to conquer the World of Light as revenge for their imprisonment.

Zant had been a servant of the Royal Family and was next in line to be king, but everyone saw the dangerous ambition he harbored and it reminded them of how they came to be imprisoned in the Twilight Realm in the first place. As a result, the throne was passed on to Midna, the Twilight Princess. Zant went into an emotional breakdown, fleeing to the palace balcony and crying out to the heavens for an answer.

An answer came in the form of a large, fiery orb of dark energy which was actually the spirit of the Gerudo King Ganondorf, who was sealed in the Twilight Realm by the Sages in a last-ditch effort after a botched execution. Posing as a god, Ganondorf offered Zant a deal: He would grant Zant the power needed to seize the throne by force in exchange for his help in escaping the Twilight Realm. He also wanted Zant to merge the Twilight Realm with the world of light to create a world of darkness.

Blinded by his lust for power, Zant agreed to the terms. Donning a monstrous metal helmet as a sign of his ascension to power, Zant stormed the palace and cursed Midna to take the form of an imp, forcing her to flee for her life. With Midna gone, Zant next sealed away the Sols, the Twilight Realm's source of power. That choked the last bit of light out of the Twilight Realm and turned its inhabitants into Shadow Beasts.

Having amassed his army and consolidated his power, Zant personally led a full-fledged invasion of Hyrule. He first attacked Hyrule Castle. His Twilit Messengers incapacitated many of the soldiers. Princess Zelda was ready to fight to the end, but Zant offered an ultimatum. She would surrender the throne to him peacefully or Zant would kill all the denizens of Hyrule. Not wanting to sacrifice her people, Zelda dropped her rapier as a sign of surrender.

With Hyrule Castle subjugated, Zant began to spread Twilight all across Hyrule by stealing the light from the Light Spirits of Hyrule. The only other opposition he faced was Queen Rutela of the Zoras, who was summarily executed. Twilight covered all of the Lanaryu, Eldin, and, Faron. The only province that remained was Ordon province, and that was narrowly thwarted because a boy named Link happened to be there when a Twilit Messenger appeared to steal Ordona's light.

With the assistance of Midna, Link began to unravel Zant's plans by returning the light to Hyrule. Zant caught up with the duo at Lanaryu's spring after they managed to obtain the last Fused Shadow. Zant took the Fused Shadows from them and curses Link to remain in wolf form permanently. He attempted to convince Midna to lend him her power in hopes that they may rule the world of light together. Midna refused and Zant exposed her to Lanaryu's light in retaliation, fatally wounding her.

Zant next meets the pair at Arbiter Grounds. Zant is astonished that Link is still alive, but remains unfazed. He uses a Twilight Sword to reanimate the monster Stallord. With Link distracted, he used the opportunity to destroy the Mirror of Twilight, the only means with which Link and Zelda could reach him.

Believing he's taken care of all obstacles, Zant spends the rest of the game at the Palace of Twilight where he has his final confrontation with Link and Midna. Before the battle, he tells Link and Midna of his motives, letting his true colors slip. After an arduous battle, Link managed to defeat the Usurper King. With his dying breath, he taunts Midna that her curse cannot be broken and that as long as Ganon lives, he will be resurrected indefinitely. Midna finishes him off with a fraction of the Fused Shadow's power.

Zant is seen one final time at the defeat of Ganondorf, in which he snaps his own neck for an unknown reason, thus ending Zant's madness forever.

His canon point is from the end of the game.

Character Personality: If Zant were to be summed up in one word, it would most likely be ambitious. Indeed, Zant's ambition is the driving force for all his actions. Even before he met with Ganon, Zant had this long standing obsession with conquering the world of light, believing that the Twili were trapped like insects and deserved to rule the world of light. Those feelings would eventually grow worse when the throne would pass on to Midna.

At first glance, Zant seems like a being who presents himself with an air of control. He rarely raises his voice nor does he ever show any sign of weakness or fear. Any situation he finds himself in is handled calmly and efficiently. He also shows himself as an adept tactician and planner, having conquered nearly all of Hyrule in mere days.

Zant is highly ruthless when it comes to completing his goals. No matter who suffers in the process, Zant forges on without a shred of remorse. He turned his own people into Shadow Beasts, forced Zelda into surrendering by threatening her people, executed Queen Rutela for resisting his rule, and fatally wounding Midna by exposing her to light. Despite all of his atrocities, however, Zant does not see himself as evil. Rather, he believes he's doing the right thing for all Twili by conquering the world of light, failing to realize that it was that very same lust for power that caused the Twili race's imprisonment in the first place.

However, once you strip away the mask of control and confidence, you see that it was just that, a mask. And underneath the mask is a raving lunatic. In reality, Zant is nothing more than a immature, psychotic, egotistic brat. Zant normally keeps this side of him to himself as long as things go his way, but the moment something happens that he can't handle, he does what any spoiled brat would do: He throws a tantrum, goes on insane rants and tangents, hops up and down with erratic movements, and makes high pitched shrieks.

Lastly, Zant displays a completely fanatical devotion to Ganondorf. Naively believing that he's a god, Zant follows his orders to the letter. His devotion to Ganon is predictably Zant's biggest weakness as he fails to realize that Ganondorf sees him as nothing more than another pawn in his grand chess game.

All in all, though he may claim otherwise, Zant is nothing more than the monstrous puppet dancing on the strings of a foul puppetmaster.

Powers and Abilities: [OOC: I thought it be more prudent to list his abilities. Will change if this is not okay. And you're free to nerf these powers however you see fit.]

What powers Zant possessed before meeting Ganon, if any, are largely unknown. Upon meeting Ganon, Zant is gifted with a wide array of magical spells and abilities. Among these are:

* Twilight Matter Manipulation: Zant's primary ability is to manipulate Twilight matter for a variety of purposes. Zant can cover his immediate area with Twilight. Any person caught within the Twilight is transformed either into a spirit of a Twilight Monster, and when trapped within Twilight, only a creature of the Twilight can take them out. Zant can also shape Twilight matter into various forms such as Twilight Portals to a Twilight Sword. Zant can also create creatures out of Twilight such as Twilit Messengers or Twilit Kargoroks. For more information on Twilight see here and here

* Immunity To Light: Due to Ganon's power, Zant, unlike most Twili, is capable of existing in the Light World without the need to hide in the shadow of another (though it is possible he can still hide in another's shadow if he wants to).

* Telekinesis: Much like Midna, Zant can move objects and people with his mind alone. He can also project shockwaves to blow enemies away.

* Levitation: Zant can freely hover in midair and in water.

* Teleportation: Zant can teleport to wherever he wants to go in a flash of twilight particles.

* Energy Projection: Zant can fire blasts of Twilight Magic from his hands.

* Size Shifting: Zant can alter his own size at will, from being no taller than a mouse to being a towering giant capable of trampling his enemies.

* Casting Illusions: Zant is capable of creating intricate illusions such as replicating past areas to creating giant versions of his helmet. He can also create phantoms of himself to fight in his place.

* Swordplay Though he prefers to rely on his vast magic, when forced to fight with swords, Zant is a skilled, if not unpredictable, opponent. His weapon of choice being twin scimitars that he hides within his sleeves, Zant attacks his foes with maniacal swings, often employing them in a deadly, high-speed spin attack. Zant can also use his teleportation to attack foes from all sides, making him a dangerous adversary in close combat.

So, I am told this world is called Nautilus, correct? This world seems pleasant enough, albeit a bit too sunny for my tastes. My name is Zant, King of the Twilight. I would request an audience with the rulers of this world. I have a few... propositions that I think would be mutually beneficial for this world and myself.

[Zant chuckles darkly as the shadows behind him begin to move.]

I assure you, when I am finished with this place. You won't recognize it. That, I guarantee.

Third Person:
They just couldn't see the beauty of it.

It had been several hours since Zant arrived in this strange world. He didn't know how or why he was still alive after his battle with Link and Midna, but it must have been his God's divine providence. Either way, he was now in an unfamiliar city with absolutely nowhere to go. So, he wandered aimlessly around the city, attempting to find someone to assist him.

But as he wandered around the city, however, his thoughts were not on where to find shelter or assistance. No, his mind was wrapped around this one burning question: How could he have failed?! He did just as his God commanded! There was no possible way he should have lost! He had all of Hyrule in the sweet embrace of Twilight! It was glorious! But that's when his thoughts shifted. it wasn't his fault. He did everything right.

It was her fault.

Midna, that arrogant, selfish, chit of a girl! She had ruined everything, her and her light-dwelling mongrel! She just couldn't see the beauty of it. But how could she? She was always a narrow-minded brat. She just couldn't see how much better it would have been. Their people would have had a new life! A much better life. They would be free from the wretched cage of the Twilight Realm. They would have finished what their ancestors started! Yet she and the rest of the do-nothing Royal Family branded him an extremist, a villain. And for what? For doing what they lacked the fortitude to do? Yes, his actions were extreme, but he held no regrets for they were necessary. What is needed is not always what is right!

Zant took a few moments to calm down, lest he lose control of himself. He then found a strange device on the ground. It looked far more advanced than anything he had seen before. He fumbled with the device a bit until it activated a video feed. It seemed this was a way of communication. That may come in handy later. Taking the device with him, he continued his exploration of the city. Perhaps this was fate's way of giving him a second chance. If he could not conquer Hyrule, he would settle for this world instead. And with Midna and her mutt gone, there was no one who could stop him.

No one could ever stop him anyway.
